Green House Assisted Living
The Legacy Village Green House Assisted Living is unique to Arkansas. This is a new opportunity for those seeking assisted care and the comforts of home, without having to choose a skilled nursing facility and without losing their daily routine. The Green House Project was created by geriatrician William Thomas. It was developed with the recognition that this generation deserves better options when they need care, personal assistance and can't or no longer want to live at home. It is the Green House Project's philosophy that all people have a right to receive the help they need with the comforts of home.
Each Green House building can stand alone in providing daily care for the ten elders living inside. Interiors are designed around the hearth, a large common area with fireplace, open kitchen, dining table for 12 and comfortable furnishings throughout. A secure exterior area features a patio and courtyard with a walking pathway. All residents have private efficiency apartments with bedroom and bath. Meals are served family style and residents may participate in meal preparation if they desire. The care promises to present a more homelike environment where elders can thrive rather than merely survive. Care is directed by the Green House principle of helping elderly, frail and disabled seniors thrive in an atmosphere rich in meaning, vitality and joy.
While the majority of Green House programs nationwide are certified as skilled nursing facilities, the Green House at Legacy Village will be certified as assisted living. The Green House Project is supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
The six Green House structures at Legacy Village are to be completed by late 2008. Legacy Village is a comfortable neighborhood campus and a non-profit community for adults 62 and over.
